WHERE TO FIND MEDICAL INFORMATIONS

Hey everyone!

Where can we find reliable medical information?

This is a subject that interests us as patients. Our illness causes us to have to make decisions about how to treat ourselves.

More than once, I have received conflicting opinions from doctors and health professionals.

How to sort things? How can you best treat yourself when you no longer know which option is the best, or in any case the least harmful?

Each case is different. Each patient has their specificities.

If you have such questions, here are some sources of medical information that may be of interest to you:

1/ UpToDate.com

UpToDate.com is a medical decision support system accessible by subscription to healthcare professionals, but also to patients and caregivers.

It is a software system which is an online medical resource by WoltersKluwer.com. You can also get information on this website on how to subscribe.

Once logged in, it is possible to search by subject. For example, the compatibility of such drug or dietary supplement with colchicine.

This website is in English. It can be useful to copy and paste the searches and results into Google Translate.

The subscription is chargeable. But it is possible to pay for a month and focus your research on this period of time. Print them.

Personally, at the beginning of my illness, I was unable to do such research myself. It was way too scary and painful. A wonderful friend did this research for me so she could sort it out and only get me to read what was really useful to me. I am forever indebted to her!!

2/ health.clevelandclinic.org

As I have already mentioned several times, in terms of pericarditis, I refer to the research of the Cleveland Clinic, which has a cardiology department specializing in pericardial diseases.

Cleveland Clinic Health Essentials provides the ability to search.

Go to health.clevelandclinic.org, click on Health Library, and search by disease or treatment. The website is free.

Again, this is an English-only site.

I hope this information helps.

As you have no doubt realized, I only share my experience as a patient with pericarditis.

I do not venture to give medical explanations because I am not a doctor. I have no medical training and I do not feel at all legitimate in this field.

I'm just telling you what worked for me, and sometimes I also share what didn't work.

So, now you have some information to do your own research regarding your health.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

Pericordially yours,

Vali
