Persimmons

Hey everyone!

Here is a little article in a slightly different spirit this week.

I would like to share some tips regarding the fruits I eat.

I eat a lot of them and how to store them or ripen them has sometimes worried me. How to consume them? When are they ripe but not too much? How do you store them so you don't have to throw them away?

Here are a few tips that I hope will be useful to you

1-Bananas and avocados

Bananas and avocados are somewhat complementary fruits in that they ripen best together. In my fruit basket, I always put avocados on top of bananas, and both ripen better and taste better.

What if they are close to becoming overripe and cannot be eaten quickly?

I peel them, and for the avocado, I also remove the pit, before freezing them in bags with a zip. I can use it later to make muffins or smoothies, and guacamole for avocados.

2-Persimmons

I discovered persimmons recently and had no idea how to consume them. The solution I've found is to freeze them first, and thaw them the night before they're needed (often, in a fruity breakfast). They are then sweeter and easier to peel.

I also made a short video on YouTube to show how I proceed.

1) Put the persimmon in the freezer for at least 12 hours

2) When it is frozen, put it in a bowl in the fridge the night before

3) Cut the top first

4) Then it's very easy to peel

5) Cut the flesh of the persimmon and serve

3-Mangos

I love mangos. It's one of my favorite fruits. Here too, I made a little video on YouTube to show how I cut it. If you are more visual like me, go see it.

1) Make an incision all around on the widest edge

2) Gently pass the knife through this incision to detach the flesh on one side of the kernel

3) Cut the flesh in a checkerboard pattern without cutting the skin and turn everything over to be able to cut the cubes thus formed

4) Add lime juice to stop oxidation

5) Free the stone. Take your time and be careful. Above all, do not cut yourself!

6) Cut the flesh off the stone

7) Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the second half of the mango

Some criticize the taste or the appearance, but sometimes it is enough to learn how to use these fruits to be able to appreciate all the benefits, and the delights!
